FAQs | Naturesbed Natural Animal Bedding and Litter

Can I put the used wood shavings into my compost bin?

Wood shavings used for bedding/litter by vegetarian animals (such as rabbits and most chickens and birds) are suitable to place in your composting bin and will make great compost for your garden. However you should not place shavings used by meat eating animals into your compost as their faeces contain potentially dangerous organisms that do not break down during the composting process.

Are there any chemicals or additives in the shavings that may harm my pet?

No there are not. Our shavings are 100% pure & natural kiln-dried pine. Furthermore they are screened to remove dust and small particles to help ensure the health of your pets.

How much bedding should I use?

We recommend using a layer of around 5cm thick in your pet's enclosure or litter tray.

How often should I change the shavings?

This will vary with the type and number of animals using the bedding/litter. Wet and soiled patches of shavings can be scooped out and replaced with fresh shavings. When the shavings become damp or begin to smell then it is time to completely remove the shavings and replace with clean product.
